Poetry corner: My Friend

When you were here life was nice.
When we were young and
Running to and fro within the edelweiss.
Finding new things everyday.
Never wanting not to play.
Everyone thought I was an odd child,
Hanging out with you.
But when you weren't there,
I was surely blue.
When I was happy, you added to my feelings.
When I was anxious, you calmed me.
When I hated the world you were there
Waiting under the willow tree.
When I started school you hung off the flagpole
Waiting for me to come home
You even learned the national anthem
You said it was like a honeycomb
When I was doing homework
You ate all my snacks
I asked you please to stop
But you just said “friend tax!”
On the weekend
It was so fun
Making mud pies
And running under the sun
When I started to grow
And get more mood swings
You were there, calming me
And helping me grow wings.
When I got a boyfriend
You became our third wheel

When we started to kiss
You began to squeal
It was hard keeping you a secret
When I mentioned you everyone would think she’s so immature
But you were always there
For those words, I wish there was a cure.
And when I started to forget you,
You started fading
And your final words to me
Let’s just say they weren’t persuading
So now when I remember you again
I wish you were here, my imaginary friend.
